ARNEC integrates Social and Emotional Learning into teacher training

Empowering ECEC Educators: ARNEC and PNU Collaborate on SEL Integration

Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Philippines Normal University (PNU) to integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into teacher professional development. This involves various methods such as programmatic approaches and activity-oriented sessions to cultivate an emotionally intelligent teaching community.

Under this collaborative partnership, PNU will provide technical guidance and support to incorporate SEL into both pre-service and in-service teacher training programs. This includes immediate actions like conducting SEL training for 3rd-year pre-service teachers and integrating SEL into ongoing in-service teacher programs. Moreover, PNU is committed to long-term strategies such as adjusting the Early Childhood Education curriculum to integrate SEL competencies and infusing SEL principles into the National Teacher Training Program, ensuring a sustained and comprehensive approach to educator development.

Success will be measured through pre- and post-assessment tools, capturing participants' feedback via interviews to ensure the efficacy of our SEL training programs.

A two-day SEL training program has been designed for March to equip pre-service teachers with necessary interpersonal skills, self-awareness techniques, and strategies for imparting SEL.
